Introducing Farmer Kahar and his Wife Hartini, the cocoa farming family who will receive much needed support thanks to your sponsorship.

Kahar and Hartini, parents 3 year old daughter Zahran, own 1.0 hectares of cocoa in Soppeng Sulawesi that is in urgent need of overhauling.

The key issues on this farm include cocoa pod borer and black pod, very basic farm practices applied and fertilizer application is significantly less than the recommended levels for proper soil management. 150 trees were recently side-grafted however the farm still contains 450 old low producing hybrids many of which need replacing as well as 175 dead trees.

About 22% of the farm requires tree replacement.

Current productivity of this farm is around 250kg per year however with some simple inputs and ongoing support by cocoa care, Kahar and Hartini could more than triple this over a 2-3 year period.

Your 12 month program will provide this family with 175 new superior cocoa tree seedlings, 450 budwood for side-grafting, farmer training, tool packs for both Kahar and Hartini, fertilizer & pest management materials for 12 months and a helping hand for a Cocoa Carer.

Kahar is an enthusiastic young guy who is very keen to learn how to better care for his cocoa to give him and his family a more productive and sustainable future.

Stay tuned, more updates coming soon!
