Trees Growing Well

Posted on February 14, 2014 by Cocoa Care | 0 comments

On December 6, 2014 the Cocoa Care field team went to visit Aziz, Sumange and Lamasse's farms to check in on the progress of their new cocoa tree seedlings planted on your behalf in mid December 2013.

The new trees planted have had an exceptional survival rate and are there are lots of new leaves evident on the seedlings. The trees have been well looked after and have had follow up fertilizer applied with second round fertilizing occurring after main crop in June.

Trees Planted

Posted on January 02, 2014 by Cocoa Care | 0 comments

December 19, 2013 was a very happy day for Farmers Salama, Aziz and Lamasse as the planting of their new superior quality top grafted cocoa tree seedlings commenced. Cocoa Carer Darwis was on hand to assist with the planting to ensure they received the best possible start.

Salama, Aziz and Lamasse all lost trees over the years due to age and pest & diseases so these new trees will significantly help these farming families increase their farm productivity and help them onto a path for a brighter future.

Your trees will begin to fruit in about 18 months and from 2016 onwards your trees should be producing up to 2kg of cocoa each year or enough to make about 2.3 kg of 70% dark chocolate, about three to four times the current average production of a “typical” cocoa tree in the world today.

We will continue to monitor the progress of your trees so please check back soon.

Great news - the rain is coming! This means that Sumange, Aziz and Lamassae are getting ready to plant the 413 cocoa trees given to them as a part of your program.

In order to ensure these trees have the best start, we have delayed planting until the rainy season starts again. Planting will commence in early December and our Cocoa Carer's will be there to lend a hand and take photographs of activities.

We will keep you posted on the progress so check back soon!
