Side Grafting Commences
Cocoa Carer Darwis has been working hard in Ibrahim's farm having side grafted around 300 trees. Cocoa trees need rehabilitation through side grafting when they are too old to produce cocoa, or are producing very little cocoa. While these trees are too old too produce much cocoa, the root system is in good condition making the tree perfect for side grafting.
Top quality, high producing budwood is used for all Cocoa Care's tree rehabilitation programs and the grafting is performed by a highly experienced Cocoa Carer.
In around 9 months time the old main tree will be cut away to give the side grafted shoots all the nutrients allowing the new shoot to fruit in about the same time as a new cocoa tree seedling.
