For The Future Of Cocoa

Side Grafting Update

Posted on April 08, 2014 by Cocoa Care | 0 comments

In early February 2014, Ibrahim side grafted 300 of his old cocoa trees and two months later the side grafted budwood is growing extremely well.

The main tree / old trunk of the newly side grafted trees will be cut away in about 7 months time giving the new side grafted shoot all the nutrients. In the meantime, Ibrahim can still harvest fruit from the main tree. The new shoot will begin to fruit in much the same timeframe as the new cocoa tree seedlings.

L: Ibrahim proud of his sidegrafting. R: The new shoot has attached to the old trunk extremely well.
